Message from Chairperson

Derri Dacres-LeeDerri Dacres-Lee, Chairperson of Miss Cayman Islands Committee (2015)

“It has been my pleasure to serve as Chairperson of the Committee for the past three years and I am so grateful for the team that I have at my side.

Our contestants are talented, beautiful and intelligent women that I am very proud of as they represent the essence of empowerment women strive to attain. The decision to enter the pageant means undertaking the task of becoming a role model in this community; a decision that is by no means easy and entails many sacrifices. With very busy schedules juggling careers and pageant activities leading up to the event our ladies can be assured that the end result will be of benefit for a lifetime.

The Miss Cayman Islands pageant is not just a beauty pageant, but an opportunity for young ladies to further their education and become leaders within our community. The experience and exposure gained from this journey is invaluable and will impact the young ladies positively for a lifetime. The winner will receive a four year scholarship to attend university overseas. The first and second runner up will receive a scholarship to attend college locally.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the Minister of Tourism, Deputy Premier Mr. Moses Kirkconnell, and his team for the support they have given the committee. We could not have accomplished what we have to date without their assistance.

A special thanks to the sponsors who continue to support us wholeheartedly. I understand and appreciate that we are in challenging economic times; however, as we continue to advertise the social benefits of such a pageant, I hope that we gain the support of the financial sector. Together, we can work to ensure that whoever is chosen as Miss Cayman on 25 March 2017, will represent the Cayman Islands with grace, dignity and pride.

I wish the contestants all the best and would like to encourage them to always believe in themselves, trust in God and never give up on their dreams and ambition.”
